THE DAY OF - INFORMATION

May 4, 2024 - Saturday

Dear Parents and Students,

Looking forward to seeing all of our Kenpo 5.0 family very soon in Pasadena!  We will be utilizing Pasadena High School’s, newly revamped gymnasium.  This location is personally very dear to me because this is where I graduated High School.  We are asking everyone to please take good care of the facility, so we will be welcomed back the following year.

Parents, family, and friends are welcomed to come, watch, and support the event.  The Spectator fee/donation is $5 for adults or children of all ages.  Please bring cash with you for entrance fee & concession (we did not collect entrance fees in advance).  We will set up the rings in the gym, which has built-in bleacher seating.  We will have the following warm food available for purchase: Pizza($3slice), Tacos($15 for a plate of 4 street size tacos) and Quesadillas($15 for a plate of 2 Quesadillas) also coffee, donuts, water, juice, and snacks; all proceeds from the spectator fees and concession will go towards our studio’s fundraising efforts which will help students get to the Las Vegas World Martial Arts Event this upcoming July 23-25, 2024 and also out of state 5.0 competitions! Please no outside food/drinks/coolers.  Sodas/sugary drinks will not be allowed inside the gymnasium.

Parking will be available in the staff parking lot located northeast of the main gymnasium starting in the morning. After 2 pm the front parking lot will also be available for us to utilize as well.

Agenda of the day of the tournament:

Competitors will be coming into the event in waves, according to their age and rank.

Check-in / Weigh-in will be available from 9am to 3pm.

Competition times for each competitor can be looked up very easily on Smoothcomp.  Also as the day progresses the times will be automatically adjusted as we go quicker or slower than scheduled, so please keep an eye out during the day.

We ask that each competitor is onsite at least 45 minutes prior to their original scheduled times, just in case we get ahead of schedule.  We are asking for all competitors to walk onto the competition floor and sit down at the side of their assigned ring 10 minutes before updated competition time shown on Smoothcomp. (Please be mindful to students competing and don’t walk across the floor, but around using the walkways and enter next to your ring)

Please scan the following QR code or visit: https://jskenpo50.smoothcomp.com/en/event/15057/schedule/matchlist

You do not need to login to your Smoothcomp account (guests can use as well) and then type in the competitors name where it says Athlete to search.  There you will also see Ring numbers, match numbers(in this format (Ring-Match number in that ring)), and time.  If you click on competitors name and then choose bracket, you will be able to see who you will be competing against.

From the same website you can also click on “Brackets & Schedule” tab, to see the progression of the day and the order of events.

*Give yourself plenty of time to find parking, walk to gymnasium, get through the check-in / weigh-in line, purchase spectator tickets, and get settled in.

*Students will compete in Forms and Self-Defense back to back, be awarded their trophies ringside and then step out of the ring to take pictures at the photo wall.  If you are also participating in 5.0 Fighting, please check your updated competition time immediately, and report 10 minutes prior with gear on to your ring.  If the student is not participating in 5.0 Fighting, then they are free to leave or stay and watch the competition.

(If weight differs by more than 5 lbs from registration, you are not guaranteed to fight in the tournament)

For everyone’s safety we strongly recommend that everyone tests for COVID 2-3 days prior to the event and also review the updated rules and regulations through Smoothcomp.

Thank you for embracing the new changes of going digital, hope everyone enjoys this upgrade!

Respectfully,

Jeff Speakman’s Kenpo 5.0 Pasadena
